I was never much of a food processor person in the past. I had a really small, el-cheapo processor that gathered dust in the back of the kitchen cabinet that I never used. But a year and a half ago I gave birth to triplets and suddenly my food processing needs increased dramatically! I borrowed a bigger food processor from a friend to make baby food in industrial quantities. Her food processor (inherited from an aunt) dated from the 1960s. To give it its due, it still worked well, but it was jet-engine loud (and when you've just gotten three babies down for a nap, loud appliances are a no-no.) And while the beast was bigger than my tiny food processor, it wasn't THAT big.
So I decided to buy myself a new food processor. I did some shopping around and was impressed by both the reviews of the Breville product, by its appearance, and by the large size of the bowl (the biggest one I saw!) Since I was preparing food in large batches for the kids, this was a very important consideration for me.
Since receiving the Sous-Chef, I have to say that it has changed my kitchen use! It's beautiful enough to have a permanent place on the counter, making it handy for everyday use. The mini-inner bowl gets tons of use, when I want to chop up a small portion of food for my girls' dinner or dice something quick myself. The large capacity bowl is awesome for preparing bulk triplet meals to freeze. I also love the storage container for all the accessories: such a great idea. I now blend soups, chop fillings and puree potatoes with my processor.
I'm writing this review because I was visiting the website looking at toaster information. My friends just bought a Breville toaster and were raving about it. Well, we have a crappy $15 toaster from Loblaws because every time we've invested in a good toaster, it broke within a year of purchase. But now I'm taking the plunge and buying the 4-slice "Bit More" toaster from Breville too. With a bigger family and more people visiting the kids, I figure it's time to invest in a 4-slice toaster. My work place got a toaster with a countdown feature, and I thought it was the most brilliant toaster idea ever. I'm hopeful that I will be as happy with the toaster as I am with my food processor.
I just received this food processor and I couldn't wait to test it out. I've been looking at various machines (Kitchenaid and Cuisinart) and after having purchased various Breville products, I decided to get the Sous Chef. This is the best kitchen tool that I've purchased. It's unbelievable how it shreds, cuts, mixes foods easily. And it's soo easy to use! I absolutely love the adjustable blade and storage bin for all the accessories. I really don't know why I haven't purchased this tool before.
This machine is worth the extra two hundred dollars. Please take the time to look at Breville's videos (with Keith Hensell) and then view the other brands. You will end up buying the Breville. The machine is really quiet, powerful and food does NOT get stuck in the blade (unlike other brands). It's also really easy to clean and use.
My only disappointment is that the model I got is not the exact same as the model shown in the Keith Hensell's videos (Designers Comments - A Better Food Processor) even though Breville only has the one model. I was expecting the power cord to automatically retract into the base and the "double" S blade with cover (like in the video). But my cord doesn't retract and I have the regular S blade... Guess that's not available in Canada.
Can't wait to do a home made pizza!!! Thanks Breville!!!
I can not begin to tell you how many food processors I have been through in a short time! I would love to list them all, but I don't believe I am aloud to! This is the ultimate in food processors. It does everything with ease. The best thing of all is that it is super quiet. I have never before had a quiet food processor! I actually had it running late at night, and did not bother anyone. It is 10 times better than the "most popular name brand" processor. This is my third purchase with Breville and is the third time I am 100% fully content. I usually don't right reviews, but with this one I could not help it. It is "The Cadillac" of processors:) I will surely look to Breville when in need of another kitchen appliance.
